Who are we?
We're a merry gang of individuals, of every age and interest, with one thing in common --
a passion for inline skating. While most of our members are Montrealers, many others
come from off-island and as far away as Sherbrooke. We're
skating buddies, speed freaks (a few of us!), all just addicted to the pleasure of rolling.
While some take part in competitions, most simply skate for fun or to
stay in shape. The differences don't matter; we always get together in a spirit of
friendship and the joy of sharing our love of the sport.
What do we do?
Mostly we skate! Weather permitting, we meet twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings in the Old Port of Montreal, before setting out on the trails. On weekends
(primarily Sundays) we go for longer excursions, often meeting outside the city,
taking advantage of the beauty and variety at places like the network of trails at Granby.
For more information, click on Group Skates. Don't
worry! -- on all of our outings there is a place for both slower and faster
skaters. Sometimes we roll together, sometimes we separate into groups according
to ability and the degree of intensity desired by each skater.
What will the club do for you?
To skate with us is to know that "socialize" and "exercise" go hand in hand.
Nobody understands your passion for skating? -- With us you'll
be surrounded by a friendly and fun gang of people who understand you perfectly!
- Big on fitness? There's no better motivation to get out there than knowing that
your friends will be waiting at such and such a time and place. Keep up with the
speedsters if you want a hard workout.
- Need help with your technique, or advice about equipment? Some of our members
are among the most experienced in the sport, and are always happy to share
their expertise. With us, you're guaranteed to become a better skater --
and to discover some great new places to skate.
- Interested in racing? The club will give you an invaluable technical background:
pack skating, speed techniques, advice from the veterans, good training habits.
Members of the club work together in training, joining
forces when travel is involved to simplify transportation and lodging. When you arrive
at a race in a team, rather than alone, you are more relaxed and able to enjoy the
experience, especially when it's your first time.
Contrary to what the media tell you, races are not about medals and standings.
Races -- from the athletes' point of view -- are times of celebration, the reward for all your training,
a chance to meet new friends from around the country while skating your heart out.
- Looking to upgrade your skates? Through our equipment pages, club members can purchase
wheels, bearings, and other equipment at a significant discount. There is also excellent used equipment
for sale, including top-quality speedskates.
- Last but not least, Roller-Montreal will be your best source of information about how to enjoy your sport to the max, both in and around Montreal.
Thanks to our mailing list, we'll keep you up to date and in touch with other skaters.
Are beginners welcome?
Our club is intended for skaters who have already reached a certain level of
experience. Without being in any way a club for the élite, Roller-Montreal is not
the best place for beginners. If you would like to learn the basics, check out our list
of certified instructors who can help you enjoy our sport to the full.
