| [Translated by Rod Willmot] Roller-Montreal's second Friday Night Skate
in the streets of the city took place on July 29. My stomach was in knots when
I arrived at the meeting-place on St-Laurent just above Duluth. The whole idea was so tempting,
but at the same time I was afraid. I'm a brave person, but with this adventure I was
afraid I might be pushing it. But the guys were quick to reassure me, and soon my fears were a thing of the past.
We went up St-Laurent (wow, the pavement is super good) as far rue Bernard, then headed west. Since Bernard is undergoing repairs, dear Charles led us on a visit of one of Montreal's famous alleys. (Night falls sooner in the alleys, as you may know... and there are speed-bumps in the alleys... Anyhow, I survived.) Then we skated as easy as can be, zigzagging among the streets of Outremont. Not many cars, not many pedestrians, really quiet, magnificent houses, trees, parks... We looped back finally towards the Plateau Mont-Royal and coasted gently down St-Denis as far as St-Louis Square, followed by a jaunt through Prince Arthur to get back to St-Laurent. There were tons of people in the terrasses on Prince Arthur, and personally I felt out of place in that environment! Back to our cars, then back home. A short outing, very very easy, about an hour long, in great company, on a superb evening. At first I was most apprehensive about traffic and speed, but I was quickly reassured and soon felt giddy with the pleasure of rolling in such a fine gang. We skated slowly and prudently. Thanks guys, Rod, Charles, Marcel, Benoît J, Xavier and Benoît St-G for this lovely skate. I'm sure for all of you it was small beer indeed, but for me it was another sweet moment of delinquency, another little challenge overcome. I'll definitely be back. For those of you who didn't come, here's my personal invitation to join us next time! Louise Bussière |
