Festival de la Santé, 2002

A non-competitor's view

Thank God there aren't just racers... Ouffffff I could never keep up! Like a lot of people I love skating, I do it as much as possible, even go to work in my blades... and if now I've joined this club, it's because I was tired of skating alone so much.

I've been skating the Festival de la Santé ever since the beginning -- 5 years if I'm not mistaken. The first 2 years I went with friends from the gym where I used work out. The past 3 years I've done it alone... so to speak!

One thing I love about the Festival is that the streets belong to us.... But I always remark on how badly maintained they are... You have to keep watching the pavement instead of looking around. What a pity!

As for the skaters, I love the fact that practically everybody talks to everybody else. This makes the trip a lot more fun.

Okay, now on the subject of this year's course... It would have been a lot better without all those railway tracks to cross! The organisers should have used a lot more yellow tape to avoid bottlenecks between skaters and cyclists.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression that this year the course put cyclists and skaters together for a lot longer. This was another mistake, in my humble opinion.... Especially since cyclists don't seem to follow the same rules as us -- keep to the right and pass on the left.

Despite these little problems, I know I'll be back next year, although I really wish the Festival would give us a 40 km course... like the cyclists!
