Heat Molding 2 - Heat-gun

Updated March 26, 2002

This method is best for when you need to adjust one small part of a boot that's pinching your foot. If what you really need is a better fit overall, use method 1 (the oven).

You must use a heat-gun. A hair-dryer won't heat the carbon enough to have any effect. Several people in the club would be happy to loan you their heat-gun, so you shouldn't have to buy one.

If the heat-gun has 2 settings, try the lower one first. Keeping the heat-gun constantly moving, work on one area at a time, heating about 60% from the outside and about 40% from the inside. Be very careful not to heat any velcro or to scorch the leather or interior padding.

Heat for 3-5 minutes or until the part you're working on is hot to the touch. Now use the handle of a screwdriver to firmly push out that part of the boot from the inside. Repeat this process until the boot no longer pinches.
