Heat Molding 1 - Oven Method

Updated March 26, 2002

This method is useful both for new boots (to achieve a comfortable fit), and for older boots - to refresh their shape if they've loosened with wear or after a hot afternoon in the trunk of your car.

Pre-heat oven to 85C or 185F. (Higher temperatures would damage the boot.) Remove all bolts, frames, ice blades etc from the boot.

Place the boots in the oven for 20-30 minutes. Caution: Do not place feet in hot boots, let them cool a little first.

Test the boot temperature with your hand before placing foot inside. Inline skates: with no wheels in the frames, mount the frames to the boots without tightening too hard. Tighten the boots with the laces and stand in them (on the frames in the case of inline skates), and wait until the boot cools. Stand with your knees slightly bent as if you were skating (but not in a deep squat), and keep still. If a particular part of the boot squeezes your foot, push that area out using the handle of a screwdriver (see method 2).

You can heat-mold the boots as often as you wish.
